William Otis marries Emily Marshall.

The couple make their home at the newly built 71 Beacon Street. He is the son of Harrison Gray Otis. She is described at the time as one of the three most beautiful women in America. Marshall dies five years later while giving birth to the couple’s third child, according to Cleveland Amory, “a martyr to the primitive surgery of the day.”
